Bone Broth

Bone Broth

Bone broth is a great way to increase your protein intake and make your meals more nutritious. Bones are made of proteins and minerals that are essential for bodily functions and processes. The minerals found in bone such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium and phosphorous are necessary for transmitting nerve impulses, muscle relaxation, cell hydration and ATP energy production.

You know, no big deal…

Sip on it through out the day (add a bit of sea-salt, turmeric and pepper for a great rainy day drink) or substitute it for any amount of water/milk in a grain, rice, stew, soup or sauce recipe.

The recipe below is meant to emphasize simple and easy; it can start off pretty bland, but the longer you leave the ingredients to cook, the more flavorful it becomes.

Instructions
  1. Add the animal parts and veggies to a very large pot. The pot I use uses 12 quartz. Trust me, you don't want to go too much smaller.
  2. Fill with filtered water until items in pot are covered.
  3. Add apple cider vinegar. Let stand for 30 minutes - 1 hour (this draws the minerals from the bone).
  4. 10 Minute before finishing, add your herbs.
  5. Strain the broth into a large bowl.
  6. Pour and store broth in mason jars, or whatever works best. You can also freeze most of it and use it as necessary.
  7. Any fat in the broth may rise to the top and harden. This is totally normal. Just skim it off and use as desired.
